The Park Hill Community Education program offers 6-week sessions to learn Tai Chi. You can sign up for the Tai Chi for Beginners session and start in the next available session. Below is a description about each session. The Tai Chi for Beginners Session is very popular and fills up quickly. Sign up early to make sure you get in.

The Park Hill sessions for Tai Chi have been going on for many years. All sessions are taught by Master Gary Huff. The classes are held in a nice room in the fitness center in the basement of the Community Ed building. Wear comfortable athletic shoes and clothes appropriate for working out in.

Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise that improves balance and increases circulation. Learn some history and basic principles of the training method of tai chi while practicing movements from the original Chen style of Tai Chi. Participants will learn warm-up exercises known as chi-gong, standing repetitive movements (silk-reeling), and learn how to put them together for a routine. Start learning the basics as a beginner and progress to higher levels of tai chi for even more fun!

The Park Hill Classes are offered in 6-week Sessions. They include a Beginners Session for new students to learn the basic exercises and movements. The history of how Tai Chi was created and the principles and theories of how to practice are also taught in this session. The Tai Chi for Beginners Session is a great introduction for those wanting to try Tai Chi and see if they like it.

As a person progresses through the Tai Chi for Beginners Class, they can learn more movements that are the beginning of the Chen Style Long Form. By signing up for the Intermediate Tai Chi Level 1, students learn more movements and exercises to continue their Tai Chi curriculum.

Students need to have a good understanding of the beginning movements and basics of Tai Chi to take advantage of moving on in the Intermediate Level 1 session. Many students repeat the Tai Chi for Beginners class two or three times before adding the Intermediate Level 1 session.

After students have taken the Tai Chi for Beginners and Intermediate Tai Chi Level 1, they can continue by taking Intermediate Tai Chi Level 2. This class teaches more movements of the Long Form and helps you learn how to train in Tai Chi with each movement. The Long Form contains a lot of information and
movements that can be used for repetitive training. This Session contains movements that are more demanding and require more athletic ability that has been gained from the previous Tai Chi sessions.

The fourth session at the Park Hill Community Education classes is the Advanced Tai Chi. This session helps all students to finish learning the Long Form of Chen Style Tai Chi. This Form contains 74 movements and is complex and difficult to learn. It takes time and effort and a commitment to practice completing it. Many students have learned the Long Form and have reaped the many wonderful benefits that Tai Chi has to offer.

It sounds like a Mountain of movements to try and learn. It is. However, at Park Hill, Master Huff takes the time to help guide each student through the different movements and principles contained in the Long Form. He has been tasked with teaching the next generation of students and even those who would teach Tai Chi to more people. His teacher is Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, and he is a 20 generation In-Chamber Disciple. The Park Hill Community Education Tai Chi Sessions are a way for people to begin learning the Traditional Tai Chi that was created by the Chen Family over 500 years ago.
